The Academic Decathlon team held its second meeting Sept. 21 and will start preparing for its two major competitions. The Academic Decathlon Area Competition will take place Jan. 23 at Madison Consolidated High School. The State competition is scheduled to take place Feb. 12 and 13 at Purdue University.
The co-sponsors of Academic Decathlon are Charles Sinclair and Scott Staley. According to Staley, officers this year are senior Leslie Cornelius, senior Jae Han, junior Michael Luo and sophomore Bekah Lockwood.
The Academic Decathlon is a competition in which students compete after studying for months from binders full of material.
The theme for this year is the French Revolution. Subjects that participants will be studying include art, language and literature, music, math, economics, science, super quiz, speech, essay and interview.
There are three divisions in the competitions. They are the honors division, scholastic division and varsity division. To compete, a team can have a minimum of two students and a maximum of three students in each competition.
