The UNICEF Club was disbanded this year after the founder of the club moved away. There are no plans to continue this club, although former sponsor Alicia Noneman said she may sponsor it again if any students plan on bringing it back.
“It depends on how much time I have, and what kind of plans the club would want to do,” Noneman said.
Last year, the UNICEF Club helped raise money for UNICEF by selling candy and other goodies to help kids in the program. They also did things like the change drive that helped raise money for the kids.
“I like helping children in need. I sponsor clubs like that. We helped raise money for UNICEF, which helped kids in need,” Noneman said, who currently sponsors the club Invisible Children.
UNICEF’s programs emphasize developing community-level services to promote the health and well-being of children, which is what the main focus of the club was this school.
“Invisible Children is a great way for kids to help other kids who don’t have as much as they do; UNICEF club was a lot like that,” Noneman said.
Despite the disbanding of UNICEF Club, students still feel that there is a need to be in clubs and other activities that involve helping people.
“Just because the club is no longer here at the school doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be there to help people that need our help,” Noneman said. By Hannah Khan <[email protected]>
