On Oct. 7, the men’s cross country team will compete in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) championship tournament against North Central, Warren Central, Lawrence North, Ben Davis, Center Grove, Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North. The meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will take place at Ben Davis High School.
According to Head Coach Erhard “Doc” Bell, several of the teams competing in the MIC are ranked, including Number-2 Carmel, Number-3 North Central, and Number-4 Terre Haute North. “Carmel has always placed either first, second or third (at the MIC),” Bell said. “We feel we are definitely capable of defending our title from last year.”
Varsity runner and senior Griffin Brunk also said he feels the team will perform well at the MIC. “We think we’ve been doing pretty well as a team this season,” Brunk said. “We’re getting mentally prepared and psyched up for the tournament season, and we’ve really been bonding well as a team.”
The MIC begins the tournament series for the Greyhounds with the Sectional, Regional, Semistate and State meets to follow. “The team is working hard and is poised to make a run at defending our State title,” Bell said. “This year has been a very outstanding year in regards to quality performances, and the Hounds will have to be at their best to claim another State championship.” By Mackenzie Madison <[email protected]>
