Students for Education, a group working to promote literacy among the poor, is currently conducting a campaign to help the homeless in the Indianapolis area.
“We are working to raise money for School on Wheels, an organization that helps poor children in Indianapolis,” Ivy Yan, club president and junior, said. “Club members are encouraged to ask anybody they can for donations to help out.”
According to Lindsey Conn, club secretary and junior, a large part of the fundraiser is conducted online.
“It’s mostly an emailing campaign by members to secure donations for School on Wheels,” Conn said. “Members get people they know to donate money and funds to donate through School on Wheels’ website.”
However, Yan said there have been some problems with online donations.
“The website isn’t up yet, so there isn’t really a way to donate,” Yan said. “We believe the website should be up in a couple of days, however.”
“I leave most of the day-to-day functions of the club to the students,” sponsor Sherri Pankratz said.
While the club is focused on the current fundraiser, Yan said there are also plans for future events.
“We’re considering a bake sale later in the year and maybe even something at Houndstock,” Yan said. By Henry Zhu <[email protected]>
