The marching band will compete in the Bands of America (BOA) Midwest Regional on Nov. 6 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The following week, it will play in the BOA National Championship on Nov. 11 – 13 at the same location.
According to Michael Pote, associate director of bands, the marching band has competed in several smaller competitions, such as the Midwest Regional, which lead up to the marching band’s largest event, the BOA Grand Nationals, in November.
He said, “There will be about 100 different bands from all around the country there (at the national championship) for three days, culminating with the top 12 bands in the country playing in the finals.”
Anthony Capone, a member of the marching band trumpet section and senior, said the BOA Grand Nationals was the marching band’s final competition. “It’s the culmination our entire season,” he said.
According to Pote, the marching band has consistently made it to the final round of the BOA National Championship. He said, “We’ve been in the finals since 1996. It’s one of only three bands in the entire country to have that long a streak.” By Caroline Zhang <[email protected]>
