According to Assistant Principal Doug Bird, the construction team is on track to complete the new fitness center for the 2013-2014 school year. The construction team will continue to work throughout the summer to finish renovations.
Bird said, “The fitness center’s looking pretty close (to being finished). There’s always hang-ups when you’re dealing with construction, but I think we’re looking pretty good for completion.”
According to Bird, in the summer, the construction team will transition from building the new part to renovating the current area. By the end of July, all the new equipment will be moved into the new building. Also, the wall between the current multipurpose room and cardio room will be removed to create the new wrestling room. Then, the current weight room will be converted into the new cardio room and allow for the expansion of the training room for student trainers.
Furthermore, Bird said the school hopes to have the new weight room completed for use by the beginning of July.
David Botros, football player and junior, said that he is anticipating the completion of the weight room so the football team can begin using it in the summer.
“Every time we look at (the fitness center), it’s a little bit more finished, a little bit more polished. We’re hoping that once we leave for the summer, they can get working a little bit faster and have it hopefully done by the end of June,” Botros said. “That way, we can use it all of July to build up our football team and start preparing us for the tough season next year. Given that it’s going to be bigger, we’re going to have more room and more people working and have an overall stronger team.”
Additionally, Bird said that currently there are no new plans for large construction projects for the 2013-2014 school year.
“The big focus is that we finish the fitness center well before we commit to any other projects,” he said.
