Students in the Applied Music classes plan to travel to New York City to see three Broadway shows and take part in workshops with featured Broadway performers on Jan. 17. The trip will conclude on Jan. 19.
Choral director Lamonte Kuskye said, “Seeing kids see New York and see their first Broadway show and work with these amazing people creates an incredible three days.” According to Kuskye, no students will be preparing for the trip musically except for six students selected to perform solos in front of Broadway professionals at a workshop.
Mary Caltrider, applied music student and sophomore, said she is focusing this trip on learning how to perform by observing top performers and their techniques to engage the audience.
She said “I’m looking forward to every aspect of New York but what I’m most excited for are the workshops that we get to attend where we will be working with many people in the Broadway business and go behind the scenes of the shows. An opportunity like that is hard to find.”
