After earning first-place victories in both preliminary and final competitions at Ben Davis High School, the CHS winter guard is preparing for the Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) State Preliminary competition at Decatur Central High School on March 8.
According to Lucy Cottrell, guard member and junior, this year’s show, called “Gunslinger,” features Western themes.
“We are kind of Western, and we make different shapes, like a sheriff’s star and a gun. We have different things that have to do with the Western theme,” she said. “I think this show is definitely a fun show to perform. It’s more of a basic idea, so it’s easier to understand.”
Sponsor Rosie Queen said hard practice is an important element of the guard’s preparation for upcoming competitions.
She said, “We are now trying to clean our show, which means that we are trying to get everybody to synchronize and do everything exactly the same and put some polish on it.”
