The men’s cross-country team competed in the State final on Oct. 29 and placed third. Columbus North and Hamilton Southeastern were victorious over Carmel.
According to junior Danny Williams, Carmel had a successful season.
Williams said, “I was satisfied overall because we didn’t choke and did better than we were predicted.”
Juniors Pat Appleton and Charlie Watson were top runners for Carmel, receiving the All-State award.
Via email, Head Coach Erhard “Doc” Bell said, “Although they would’ve liked to place first or second, this is a good place for our young team.”
The team now looks forward to next year, returning the top five runners and being State favorites for the 2012 season.
Bell said, “We will be favorites to win the State Championship next year if the athletes remain focused and work hard. We will be developing a more structure year-round training program to improve our chances.”
