Coming off of a solid win at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) championship on Sept. 14, the women’s golf team is focusing on preparing for the Sectional on Sept. 20 at South Grove Golf Course.
At the MIC championship, the team won for the 13th consecutive time, with all five of their top players finishing in the top six players overall. Head Coach Ken Kelly said that this was the first time Carmel has had all five girls make the all-conference team.
Team member and senior Makenzie Curtis, who defended her title from last year title by winning the MIC conference title, said she is excited for the Sectional. Her goal is to finish in the top four at the Sectional and to not score higher than a 78. “I’m not really nervous until I get there, and after I hit my first two shots I’m ready to go,” Curtis said.
In terms of preparation for this week’s Sectional, Kelly said, “we are working on our short game and a few punch shot drills for the course that has a few tree lined fairways to manage.”
Members of the women’s golf team which is currently ranked 2nd in the state, said they feel confident going into the Sectional. Curtis said, “We have a pretty strong team. I have no doubt that we won’t lose.”
