The men’s soccer team begins a three-game road trip on Sept. 26 against the state’s top-ranked team, Evansville Memorial. The Tigers have held the Number-1 spot in the polls all season, and the Hounds have a chance to hand them their first loss since the 2006 State Semifinal, when Carmel beat them 1-0.
Midfielder and junior Nate Snyder said a win at Evansville Memorial would be a huge boost for the team.
“They haven’t lost in a long time, so it would be huge if we could beat them, especially down at their place,” Snyder said. “It would just give us confidence for later on in the season if we were to see them again in State.”
Snyder said although the Tigers haven’t lost in almost three years, he believes the Hounds have a chance to pick up a victory if they play team soccer.
“We’re just going to have to stay really connected, play together well, cut out all the individual play, and just play as a team,” he said.
Despite Evansville Memorial’s track record in recent years, Head Coach Shane Schmidt said the Hounds will prepare for the game the same as they always do.
“In all honesty, we really don’t prepare any differently for whoever we’re playing,” Schmidt said. “We prepare us, and as long as we take care of what we need to take care of, I think we can be competitive with any team in the state, or in the country for that matter.”
