The men’s soccer team squares off against Brebeuf Jesuit on Oct. 14 in the Regional semifinal at North Central at 5 p.m.
The unranked Braves cruised through Sectional play with an impressive 4-0 win over Number-10 North Central in the final. Defender and senior Charlie Dankert said he expects Brebeuf to bring a defensive mindset to the match against the Hounds.
“Brebeuf has a really strong defense,” Dankert said. “They’re probably going to pack it in and hope to counter-attack late in the game and try to reduce our attack as much as possible.”
The Hounds, currently ranked Number-2 in the state, advanced to the Regional by winning Sectional 39 on Oct. 10, with a 2-1 win over Westfield in the morning and a 2-0 victory over host Fishers later that night in the final.
Westfield knocked Carmel out of tournament play last season, and the Hounds barely escaped the Shamrocks again this year. Westfield went up 1-0 early in the game, and Carmel scored the winning goal with just 44 seconds remaining. Head Coach Shane Schmidt said the victory was a thrilling boost for the team.
“It was pretty exciting, I have to be honest with you,” Schmidt said. “It was fun, and I’m really happy for the guys. They’ve put forth the effort all year long.” By Andrew Browning <[email protected]>
