With a national record under its belt, the women’s varsity swimming and diving team prepares to win another State title. However, the powerhouse still looks to improve this season.
Captain and senior Lauren Stauder said, “I feel we have very high chances (of continuing the streak this year). We have great team leadership. Everyone has been training so hard. We have had some great freshmen come in this year, and they are really stepping up. So you know, I think this year is going to be a great year.”
Stauder, a four-year varsity swimmer here at CHS, said she enjoys being on team with so much tradition and spirit. Head Coach Chris Plumb agreed and said, “I believe it is 23 years of support that helped create a tremendous amount of tradition and pride. It is quite a standard they have set and it is our job to try to live up to these standards.”
“Now that we have the streak, we are trying to figure out ways to improve on that,” Stauder said. “Just as a team, we want to score more points. We want to get all 27 wins at State, move everyone from Sectionals, and get everyone in the top eight.”
Plumb said to improve, all the team needs to do is work on minor details such as starts, turns and team spirit.
“My goal for the team is to be a united and spirited team that swims its best at the State meet,” he said.
The team’s next meet is scheduled for Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. It will take place at Hamilton Southeastern High School and against HSE, Lafayette Jeff and West Lafayette.
Stauder said, “(At the Hamilton Southeastern meet) we will be in the middle of training, but we always pull through and try our best. I have a pretty good feeling we’ll do well.”
“Our goal is to be swimming at our best at the end of the season,” Plumb said. “If we do that, then it will be a successful season. If we swim our best, then everything will take care of itself.” By Alex Mackall <[email protected]>
