The women’s swim team is off to a strong start and continues to improve this season. The team plans to put all of its hard work into action on Jan. 9 at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference Championship. The meet will take place at the Carmel High School natatorium at 1 p.m.
Head coach Chris Plumb said, “The girls have always won this meet.” But Plumb said there is a lot of tough competition this year, and Center Grove might be the biggest threat.
The Center Grove swim team is currently ranked third, two spots behind CHS. But when comparing the two teams at the 2009 State championship, the CHS team triumphed with a 346 over Center Grove’s 157.
The team looks to improve on its performance from last year’s MIC championship where it prevailed with a score of 528, followed up by North Central with 419.5 points and Center Grove with 352.5 points. The team’s highlight of the competition was its victory in all three relay races.
Plumb said the team continues to practice as usual to prepare for this event. He said, “The team is training well, and I know they look forward to competing.”
“We focus on what we can control, and we take care of our own business,” Plumb said. “If we do that the end result takes care of itself.” By Alex Mackall <[email protected]>
