CHS Freshmen choir, Counterpoints, is practicing new music for their upcoming concert on September 29, which will be their debut performance. Counterpoints will be performing with all other CHS choirs, including the Accents and Ambassadors. “We’re very excited for this concert. It gives the new freshmen a chance to show their skills to the school,” choir director Ann Conrad said.
Counterpoints is split into three different groups, and each group is taught by a different teacher. Conrad’s group will be performing an old 1920’s Broadway show song called “For the Varsity Drag,” which will also include choreography. “Kind of a flappers, Charleston type thing,” Conrad said.
A change this year to Counterpoints is that there are many more boys in the choir, so the groups have been adjusted. Last year, there were two all girl Counterpoints choir groups and one mixed boys and girls group. This year, however, many more boys have joined Counterpoints, so one whole group is solely for boys only. “It’s a wonderful change this year to have more boys. It gives the choir a more diverse sound,” Conrad said.
Counterpoints member and freshman Vessi Doncheva says she really enjoys Counterpoints. She is Conrad’s group and perfoming “For the Varsity Drag” number. “It’s really fun because I’m with my friends. Also, we have new outfits for the performance, so I’m excited.” By Dhruti Patel. <[email protected]>
