The media center currently has a Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. traveling exhibit on display. The exhibit consists of several panels, interactive iPads on stands, and a replica of Vonnegut’s original typewriter, according to media department chairperson Terri Ramos. The exhibit will be on display until the first week of March.
Ramos said, “I think (the exhibit) is very enriching and it brings learning to life a little more, because a lot of times, what do students ask you? They say ‘Why are we doing this? Why are we reading this? Why is it important to me?’ Well, because this is real life, this is what happened, and this novel is a reaction to that real life event, so it makes it real.”
Johanne Vincent, media aide and sophomore, said she likes the exhibits because of the new information they hold.
“They give you a lot of info on things I would never really think about, like the last one, with the course case, I didn’t really know much about it before,” Vincent said.
Ramos also said that she has a proposed a remodeling plan for the library, which involves changing the furniture in the south lounge area, the multipurpose room and the north reading room.
“It’s going on for quite some time, and I’m proposing it as an option to make the library a more inviting place, because the furniture is a little worn, and stained in some places,” Ramos said. “Additionally, that multipurpose room is often used as a classroom, so portability of those tables, making that more conducive to learning yet making it more friendly to teenagers; I want it to accommodate both of those, so with the new furniture I think it’s going to do that.”
