Members of the men’s cross country team continue to train and prepare as their season will begin to come to an end after State Finals on Oct. 27 in Terre Haute.

The men’s cross country team prepares for the State Finals, the last race of the season, on Sat. Oct. 27 in Terre Haute. The team has continued to train and condition all season for their most important race.

Head Coach Colin Altevogt said the runners have done an excellent job doing what’s been asked of them.

“I think our guys have just done everything that we’ve asked them to do all season, and know that when the time comes they’ll be ready for the most important race, and they’ve been ready for the first three rounds of the tournament, so I think that State will be the same,” Altevogt said.

Competition should stay high at the upcoming race with a well-performing team from Ft.Wayne, who is evenly matched to the skills of CHS. Altevogt said that even with good competition, the team should continue to race the way they always have.

“Just continue to do the things we’ve always done and let’s just go out and see what we can do. Let’s compete as hard as we can and let them add up the scores,” Altevogt said.

Tim Metken, JV runner and sophomore, also anticipates a good turn out for the State Finals. He said he knows what the work so far this season has done to improve their fitness and puts an emphasis on team strength going into State.

Metken said, “I’m not going to actually guarantee that we will win but the odds are in our favor… our work and effort as a team and a community has prepared us.”
