Artists Association’s last meeting of the school year was on April 14 in Room C125. According to Angela Yu, club officer and junior, the club officers do not plan to host anymore meetings.
Yu said one of the activities that club members benefited from was the oil pastels. Yu said members were able to experiment with new forms of medium that they previously might not have used before. Over the course of the year, Yu said her favorite memory of the club was designing Homecoming tote bags and reading comics created by a collaborative effort between club members, which she said she hopes to continue doing next year.
“A goal we have for next year is to continue using a variety of materials to create art. Utilizing the different mediums we have access to, we want to allow students a variety of choices when it comes to art,” Yu said.
However, the club officers encountered some challenges with attendance during the winter final seasons. Yu said the club officers worked to improve attendance by modifying club activities to include more social activities such as drawing charcoal portraits of a partner of their choice.
In terms of setting goals and improving the club for the next school year, Yu said the club officers are working towards incorporating more community art activities.
“When it comes to improving our club, we might want to implement more opportunities for community projects. Using art to communicate with our community is a new idea we could try,” Yu said.
According to Andrew Murray, club sponsor and visual arts teacher, he said he was proud of the club for integrating community activities this school year and hopes to see more next year.
“I’m excited to see any kind of outreach. I know we did a mural in the community, so these types of things are just a cool opportunity for this club.” By Demi Zhang
