CHS men’s lacrosse coaches and players practice outside at Murray Stadium earlier this week. The team continues to give the championship effort in order to win against Cathedral.

After a well-earned victory against Ohio team Springboro, the CHS men’s lacrosse team is moving forward and preparing for the next big matchup against Cathedral High School. According to head coach Jack Meachum, the team’s well-executed game gives it the confidence to defeat the defending State Champions on Friday, May 18.

“It’s the first time that we’ve faced a tough out of state opponent. We’re clicking at the right time going into this playoff stretch and Cathedral Week. That was really good for the guys,” Meachum said.

Jordan Walker, Varsity faceoff player and junior, agrees with Meachum.

“We feel really good about the win. They were a good opponent but we played very well and shut them down. This gives us confidence moving forward knowing that we can play with, and beat any team we play,” Walker said.

Meachum feels confident in his players’ skills and the preparation that has gone into the past week of practice.

“We have a really good scout so we know what they’re going to try to do. It just comes down to us executing. We don’t change what we do based on the opponents we play. We like what we’re seeing on film, and we’ll have the guys ready for it,” Meachum said.

Recently, the team has talked about what it means to have a “championship effort.” According to Meachum, the difference between working hard and working at the championship level can be seen in the team’s recent ability to put together a full game and execute well in all aspects. The team still has two regular season games, including Cathedral. The team’s last game will be played against South Bend Saint Joe at home at Murray Stadium for senior night.

According to Walker, he hopes to win against Cathedral as well as Saint Joe and continue the pattern as the team moves through the tournament, hopefully advancing to the State Championship weekend on June first and second.
