When did you start making custom banners?

I started making banners in April 2025 for my 16th birthday party. 

How did you get into making custom banners?

I got into making banners because I used to paint and do a lot of crafts with my mom when I was younger. I also wanted a photo backdrop for my birthday, so I thought I could make a cute banner. 

Why did you decide to start a custom banner business?

I started a business because I really liked making my own banner and it was a really good creative outlet for me. 

What is your favorite banner you’ve made?

Last week, I did a basketball court banner for a little boy’s seventh birthday and I love how it turned out. I also did a third birthday

banner with dinosaurs and I really liked the shading I did. 

What is the typical process of creating a custom banner?

My process is that I make different mock-ups on Canva and then send those mocks to customers before painting. Then, I paint the banner, wrap up the banner with a bow and then it gets picked up. 

How long does it take to make one banner?

Mock-ups can take 15 to 30 minutes. Then, painting the banner usually takes 1 to 3 hours depending on how complex the design is. 

How do you promote and advertise your work?

To advertise my banners, I post on Instagram @signs.by.callie and my mom also posts on Facebook. A lot of the time, people see my banners through parties and then get my info through there. 

What obstacles or hardships have you had to overcome through your small business journey?

As I become more successful, I am getting more orders and it can be really difficult to complete several banners a week while balancing sports, babysitting, and schoolwork. 

Who has been supporting you throughout your small business journey?

My family, friends, and my babysitting clients always support me and always tell their friends to get a banner from me. 

How do you plan to take this small business further in the future?

To take my small business further, I hope to expand my social media following and start making “How to make Banner” videos. 

What has been your most impactful experience throughout your small business journey?

The most impactful experience I’ve had was getting asked to make banners 

for Carmel Dance Marathon and Mr. Carmel. This felt very impactful for me because I was helping out throughout my community. 

What advice do you have for any high schoolers also wanting to start a small business?

You should try to find something that you like to do and enjoy. Then, try to make that profitable for you. Also, you should talk to other small business owners.
