As Homecoming week approaches, the Senior Class is already working to win the pride of the school through Homecoming competitions and activities. The Senior Class officers Madison Brake, Deanna Daly, Charlie Dankert and Anna Fipps have all been working to make this Homecoming the best yet.
“They have already had a couple of meetings,” Senior Class sponsor Jen Williams said. “They already have their theme for the playhouse.”
Senior Matt Flaherty said he is also preparing for Homecoming.
“I’m excited for my Senior Homecoming,” he said. “Homecoming is the week where we get the best school spirit and everyone comes together for a common goal.”
Homecoming week consists of various competitions that earn points for each class. Activities include: penny wars, a 5K run/walk, spirit days, trike races and building playhouses to be sold at the Homecoming football game.
“We better win,” Williams said.
The penny wars are one of the most competitive competitions that take place during Homecoming week. During the penny wars, each class tries to add pennies (positive points) to their own jars and silver coins and dollar bills (negative points) to the other class’s jars. The winner is whichever class has the most points.
“It’s a huge deal,” Williams said.
As students dress up for the spirit days throughout the week, the points add together to earn the winning class the pride of the school.
“Seniors are just cool because they have so much pride,” Williams said. “It’s very cool. Junior year, you don’t always feel like there is a lot of pride, but they turn up senior year and they have the spirit.”
