Junior Angela Yu (left) and senior Hannah Tran (right) are attending Artist’s Association’s first meeting on Aug. 26. Yu and Tran were sketching self-portraits for the club’s first activity. Tran said, “I like attending Artist’s Association because I get to hang out with my friends and draw at the same time.”
Artist’s Association will be hosting its next meeting on Sept. 9, according to co-president and senior Aidan Shen. The club officers have not yet decided on an activity, but hope to establish a routine of practicing an art skill through a regular activity.
As the club gets started in the new school year, Shen said the club officers will expand their presence through social media and will also reach out to the freshmen. He said the club aims to spread art awareness and teach valuable traditional art skills. Shen said the club officers wanted to make art more accessible to students who are not fully aware of the extent of the art department they have at their disposal.
“I think art can change your life in unexpected ways, it’s a good way to be creative and of course, it’s really fun. I also think art is really important for everyone, even if you don’t consider yourself an artist.” Shen said.
Andrew Murray, club sponsor and visual arts teacher, said, “I like the casual environment of it (Artist’s Association), I feel like it’s structured like a class where you’re learning stuff and doing projects, but I also think it’s fun to be with your friends and actually enjoy doing art.” By Demi Zhang
