Artist’s Association will host their next meeting on Feb. 3, according to co-president and senior Angela Li. The co-presidents said the activity has not been decided yet, but will be centered around refining art skills and connecting students through art.

Li said the co-presidents aim to teach club members new mediums or styles of art that many won’t usually get the opportunity to practice with during class. Li said the co-presidents also will seek out opportunities to collaborate with the community, such as drawing murals on walls next to the Monon Trail.

“During the spring and summer, we had collaborated with a resident of downtown Carmel who had generously donated their exterior garage wall to Artist’s Association for painting,” Li said. “It’s pretty big and faces the Monon trail, so last year we painted a big mural. This spring we’re especially excited to come up with mural ideas and we hope to get as many members involved as possible.”

Andrew Murray, club sponsor and visual arts teacher, said he hopes to create opportunities for club members to join art competitions or experiment with new materials. Murray said he enjoys the environment Artist’s Association creates for artists at this school.

“I really like what the club has been about from the get go, and the officers have always done a good job,” Murray said. “The officers are keeping the pillars of creating a community and also getting art out into the community.”
