Aperture Club is scheduled to have its second meeting of the year on Oct. 23. At the meeting Sam Patterson, club president and senior, will conduct a photo lesson on how to shoot a photograph in manual mode.
Patterson said that learning how to shoot in manual mode will be applicable to all the things that the club will do for the rest of the year. “The lesson will really get them thinking about the technical side of photography,” Patterson said.
“So many people know how to take a picture in automatic mode. With that, you end up with the same type of pictures. Switching to manual mode will open up more opportunities for the photographers,” Jim Streisel, club sponsor and journalism teacher, said.
The club’s first photo contest is also due at the next meeting. The contest theme is “Halloween.” Competitors are to take a picture of a Halloween scene and submit it to the club’s Facebook page or develop the picture and bring it to the next club meeting. “The contest gets the members thinking of the creative aspect of photography,” said Patterson. Streisel thinks that the contests the club does is beneficial to the members. “The purpose of the contests are not to belittle anyone but rather provide constructive criticism,” said Streisel.
