The week got off to a tough start with news that Robert Mathis would be out for the year with an Achilles tear. The Colts pass rush struggled without Mathis against Peyton Manning, so it will be interesting to see how the pass rush fares the rest of the season without their pro bowl linebacker.
Now the 0-1 Indianapolis Colts will host the 1-0 Philadelphia Eagles in their week 2 home opener.
The Philadelphia Eagles use a lot of two tight ends sets with Brent Celek and Zach Ertz, with Ertz catching a touchdown and 77 yards receiving last week against the Jaguars. The Colts struggled last week when Denver used two tight ends with Virgil Green and Julius Thomas, allowing Thomas to earn 104 yards and 3 touchdowns receiving. If Zach Ertz, a receiving tight end is on the field, the Colts will have to use either middle linebackers Jerrell Freeman or D’Qwell Jackson to cover him. Both Freeman and Jackson struggled last week against the Broncos, The Eagles however, do not have three dangerous receivers like the Broncos, opening nickel corner back Darius Butler to cover Ertz if needed. It will be interesting to see who covers the Eagles’ tight ends, as they will be critical in helping the Eagles potent offense.
Final Prediction:
The Eagles have a great offense that could be lethal, but they are also prone to mistakes as seen in their first half against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 1. If the Colts can limit their own mistakes and establish a run game, they should get a well needed win at home in week 2.
