This week is “FCCLA Week” according to Vivian Heerens, chapter president of the Family, Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) and senior. For FCCLA Week, members of the club focus on recognizing other members for their work and service, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer.
“We will be doing a lot of baking and also planning for our upcoming events,” Heerens said.
The club will also host two Valentines Day dinners, one on Friday for everyone and the other on Saturday for teachers in the community room from 6:15 to 7 p.m.
“This is a really great fundraiser for us to raise money for our national and state competition,” Heerens said.
According to Heerens, around 20 club members will participate in Students Taking Action with Recognition (S.T.A.R.) events at the FCCLA State Conference in March.
“We have had great success in the past with our S.T.A.R. events, so I’m very excited,” Heerens said.
According to Heerens, the club will also begin planning for their annual fundraiser to benefit “Share Our Strength,” an organization that combats child hunger.
“We haven’t decided on any dates yet, but we will be participating in something at the state level,” Heerens said.
