On Wednesday, April 13; sophomore Bella Simons was adotped to the girl’s track and field team. The adoption was organized by sophomores Kate Vanderveen, Melissa Seals, Leora Lucas, and Emma Riddle in support of the Friends of Jaclyn organization.

Friends of Jaclyn is an nonprofit organization that organizes adoptions to sports teams for students who have various brain trauma. This adoption was organized between the girl’s track and field team and Simons, who has a brain tumor.

After the adoption, girl’s track member and senior Samantha Wolfe said “This adoption will inspire us as we prepare for our competition season, especially this upcoming weekend with Lawrence Central and the (Flashes) Showcase.”

Head coach Ken Browner concurred. “This will definitely give us some inspiration as we travel to Franklin Central and Lawrence Central this weekend.”

As part of the adoption, Simons received a track T-shirt as well as an authentic track uniform to wear to track events.

Wolfe said, “This adoption will give us an opportunity to run for someone who is less fortunate.” By Aaron Seals
