A CHS student scans a book in the Young Adult section of the Carmel Clay Public Library. The library offers many services besides just book checkout, including study areas, computers and the library café.
On Dec 10, the Carmel Clay Public Library will host the Students Rebuild Youth Uplift Challenge from 10 a.m. to noon in the library’s program room.
According to Young Adult Liberian Jamie Beckman, students who attend will make and decorate paper hands during this event. For each hand made, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1.90 to Save the Children’s programs, which help youth in Nicaragua and Indonesia.
There is no need to sign up, interested students need only to come to the program room on the day of the event. It will also count for volunteer service hours.
In addition, the Teen Library Council is continuing to plan for their annual Yule Ball in late December. According to TLC member Veeda Scammahorn, they are focusing their efforts on promoting the event to high schoolers this year.
“We had a huge middle school turnout at the dance last year, so it would be kind of nice to have more high schoolers come,” she said.
She also said that they hope to receive more volunteers to help serve food and drinks at the dance.
