Last year, after the president of Math Club graduated, the club was left with a void in leadership.

However, senior Shawn Qian wanted to take up the reins and the club is back up and running again after seeing a high interest in new members.

The members, who come from all four grades, are hoping to practice with each other in order to perform well on various mathematics competitions.

“For the last few years,” Qian said, “there have been many people interested in advanced math problem solving techniques but we never really did much in math club to advance their interests.

“This year, we are focused on actually learning new math topics and preparing members for competitions; today, we worked on some basic number theory, and AMC problems.”

Qian said the club is looking for more juniors to join for the Nov. 14 Rose Hulman Math Competition, so there will be weekly meetings for members to attend.

Sponsor Kathie Freed, who teaches a few calculus classes, said, “We need more girls.” Currently, there are only four females in the club. By Michelle Hu <[email protected]>
