Seniors Katie Ebersole and Riley Walker, along with freshman Lindsey Walker are all part of a program known as Healing the Children. This program allows students to assist doctors in Guatemala and will take place from Nov. 16 until Nov. 24.
“I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing to help the doctors, but I hope I’m able to either be in or observe some of the surgeries there,” Riley said.
According to counselor Stephanie Benson, service opportunities such as this are often very impactful because they help students realize the depth of human need and give perspective on all that is taken for granted in this United States.
“I believe these students will gain important experience through this program which will help them succeed in future careers and gain compassion and insight toward people of all backgrounds,” Benson said.
Riley said she hopes to gain insight into the world of medicine through this program.
“I think it’ll be a really good experience especially because I think I’ll be pursuing a career in medicine,” Riley said. By Erum Rizvi <[email protected]>
