Interviews with Sophomore Avi Goot and Sophomore Mason Yao
1) How did the band form?
Goot: It was originally just me, Evan Crafts and a bass player, and it just wasn’t working out because obviously that’s not enough people, so we got a new bass player and just started adding people. We kept adding people until we felt like the band was complete. And now we’re up to 10 or 11 people, and it’s The Council.
2) How did the band decide on its name?
Goot: It was originally a group of four or five guys who I used to play rugby with. We used to ride around in cars and blast orchestra music out the window, and we had this mini fraternity called the Council of Elders.
3) What will set your band apart from the others?
Yao: We’re diverse. Plus we have rappers. No other band has rappers.
4) What is the most memorable experience the band has had together?
Goot: Learning songs literally one day or one hour before the show and totally rocking it.
5) How does it like to headline Houndstock?
Goot: It feels legendary because underclassmen never get a chance to do that.
6) What is the band looking forward to the most about Houndstock?
Yao: I’m looking forward to getting more people to know us because we’re kind of underground. Not many people know us, but we’re coming out and headlining. And we’re underclassmen too. And just the actual performance itself because it feels good to be on stage.
Goot: And the women.
7) What kinds of music will the band perform at Houndstock?
Yao: Awesome music. Popular music ranging from hip-hop to indie to pop.
8) What are your future plans for the band?
Goot: We’re going all the way. We will be famous.
