For just over a decade, CHS Cabinet has organized Runway for Riley, an annual fundraising fashion show. Speaker of the House and senior, Claire Wolfgang, said the event was created to support a meaningful cause. 

“The Runway for Riley was started when the Caroline Symmes Children’s Cancer Endowment was tied into the Cabinet’s curriculum,” Wolfgang said. “When Caroline passed away at the age of five, her parents opened this endowment in her honor. Our movement goes toward that as well as Riley Children’s Hospital.”

Andrea Gollnick, House of Representatives sponsor, said unique fundraising methods are used.

“Runway for Riley is a fashion show and the clothes and accessories are from local boutiques and businesses,” Gollnick said. “People can come buy box seats to watch or just regular tickets.”

With high hopes for the event, Wolfgang said the Cabinet is tasked with ensuring everything runs smoothly. 

“We are going after school today to pick out the outfits from the boutiques and make sure everything looks good,” Wolfgang said. “We’ve been contacting businesses and food vendors to make sure we have the electricity and items they need. Within the Cabinet, it’s important everyone knows their roles, the dress code, and their schedule for Saturday.”

Gollnick said the Cabinet’s dedication and hard work is a labor of love.

“The Cabinet members love this event and put a lot of effort into it each year,” Gollnick said. “Who doesn’t love creating a runway in the middle of the varsity gym?” By Aidah Brown
