Senior Cat Robinson remains attentive to the school board meeting on Aug. 26, 2024. The students attended the meeting in support of their classmates who would be providing public comments.

The next school board workshop session is set for March 6. During this meeting the board will celebrate the Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving State Champions. The school board makes regular efforts to commend the achievements of different CHS sports, clubs and activities.

On a different note, according to Jon Shapiro, president of the school board, the board is currently in the process of updating policy concerning public comment during meetings.

He said during last year’s election cycle, community members during meetings had to navigate a difficult situation when it came to commenting on different board members.

“With the way our current policy is written, (community members) were not allowed to talk about that person by name and so we as a board thought that that was a little strange and so we decided we asked our board members who work on the policy to take a look at the policy,” he said.

Mekhseb Micheal, youth advocate and junior, said “free speech involving the school administration is important because at the end of the day, the board member’s decisions are affecting the community so we should have a say in whether or not we believe in something.” By Aida Karim.
