The “Brain Games,” a SSRT trivia competition, is a long-standing tradition at this school hosted by Senate. Luke Boyce, Brain Games co-chair and senior, said senators balance preserving the event while introducing new concepts.

“Every year, Senate commits to writing new trivia questions,” Boyce said. “Incorporating questions about current events and pop culture makes the event fresh for repeat competitors.”

Michelle Foutz, Senate sponsor, said the question creation process is essential for the event’s success.

“The senators research questions to make sure they’re accurate and have the correct answer,” Foutz said. “The format of the questions is also very intentional. The beginning of the question is more vague and then it becomes more detailed.”

With such an intricate task, Boyce said past senators have tried to innovate with the use of artificial intelligence.

“Last year, we tried to use AI to write some of our questions,” Boyce said. “It led to a lot of inaccuracy and some issues with formatting. All our questions are written by hand, which does take longer, but it makes the questions more quality.”

Senate plans to continue their fact-checking and editing to ensure quality questions for the upcoming finals. The remaining teams, Hargrove’s SSRT and a TCP team, will compete live on CHTV on March 25. By Aidah Brown
