For decades, this school has hosted Japanese students through an exchange program with Carmel’s sister city, Kawachinagano. Karis Ho, Senate’s Japanese exchange co-chair and sophomore, said many students are looking forward to the program.

“For about a week and a half, Carmel students are hosting Japanese students from a sister program,” Ho said. “They’ll live with students, come to school and our classes.”

Michelle Foutz, Senate sponsor, said Senate has an exciting role once the exchange students arrive.

“We are hosting a welcome reception during SSRT,” Foutz said. “We’re hoping one of the performing arts groups will sing. Then we’ll take half of the students on a tour of the building while the other half will be in the cafeteria mingling and eating treats.”

With the reception planned for March 23, Ho said Senate has a lot to prepare before then.

“Prior to the event, we have to reserve the cafeterias, purchase the cake and any refreshments, and coordinate speeches and entertainment,” Ho said. By Aidah Brown
