Choir classes are preparing for their first concert, called “In Concert,” on Sept. 27. All 12 choirs will perform two to five songs in an approximately 90-minute concert, according to choir director Lamonte Kuskye.

“This year, (the choirs) are all so serious about it. They’re practicing really hard,” Kuskye said, “It’s a pretty amazing start.”

The choirs will perform a variety of genres of songs, ranging from Broadway to pop. Choreography also has a wide range from hip-hop to African.

Laura Ellsworth, Blue and Gold Company member and sophomore, said she looks forward to the new costumes this year. “The dresses will be sparkly gold and black velvet, and the guys will have matching vests, but we haven’t actually seen them yet.” Her choir learning choreography for one final number and putting the final touches on the others.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the door. The prices are still undecided, but the admission fees go back to the production cost, including choreographers and new music.

Kuskye said, “A choreographed number can be anywhere from a minimum of $400 to $600, just for two or three minutes on stage. So we’re thrilled to have ticket money to help fray the cost. But the concert’s going to be great. I’m really excited.”
