According to Mark Wien, organizer of the event, the Freshman Class magazine sale will take place from Oct. 25 to Nov. 10.

“Magazine sales have been a tradition for over 30 years now. Every Freshman Class has sold magazines,” Wien said.

Magazines such as Time, Sports Illustrated and Newsweek are sold through the website qsp.com. Students will only need to sign up to be able to sell magazines. Proceeds from the magazines sales stick with the Freshman Class as its students progress through high school, eventually paying for many of their senior year activities, such as graduation.

However, the magazine sales do not always raise enough proceeds. According to Wien, it is not uncommon for a class to not raise enough money for many of its senior year activities. In fact, the current Senior Class is facing such a problem.

“Because the seniors didn’t raise enough money through the magazine sales, they’ll have to find another way to get the funds they need,” Wien said.

Freshman senator Edward Zhang said he hopes his class can sell as much as it can.

“Because we’ll be using this money for all four years of high school, it’s best that we can raise as much as possible right now and not have to worry about it later,” Zhang said.

According to Wien, the target amount each year is around $10,000, but raising more will also be beneficial.
