According to club co-president and junior Cynthia Wu, UNICEF will not have meetings until after winter break.
Wu said that although the club does not have any other major events planned out for the rest of the school year, members plan to hold bake sales during the second semester.
According to Wu, UNICEF will start to plan for the bake sales after winter break. She said that in previous years, members brought in baked goods to sell in the main cafeteria and planned shifts for each lunch period.
Wu said, “It’s a fun activity for members to bake together. And students usually like to buy the baked goods. They are just part of our raising money for the (parent) organization.”
Sponsor Jill Noel said that running the bake sales is more laid-back and less time-consuming than the international fair the club participated in, but the bake sales still add to the overall funds.
“I think that (the bake sales) don’t add a lot, but they do add money to our account, and it really does not take much on every dollar to help out a poor child somewhere,” Noel said.
According to Noel, the funds raised during events throughout the year are added up and sent to the international UNICEF organization at the end of the school year.
Wu said, “We are trying to think of new things to do (to raise money), but that’s still a work in progress.”
