Global Giving to host next meeting Feb. 10

Global Giving is scheduled to host its first meeting of the semester on Feb. 10 after its Feb. 4 meeting was cancelled due to members’ conflicting schedules, according to sponsor Ryan Ringenberg. During this meeting, the club will redo officer elections and continue planning the dance jam that will take place around March.

Jessica Chiang, Global Giving club president and senior, said, “We are actually going to be re-doing officer elections because last time we did officer elections there weren’t a lot of people who showed up because they had prior commitments. So we decided for it to be fair, we would just rehold the elections.”

The treasurer, secretary and vice-president of the club are chosen by majority vote, while the president is chosen by interview process, according to Chiang.

“We’ll just have each person (running for president) come out into the hall, and it’s not like interrogation,” Chiang said. “It’s pretty casual, and we just like to get people who are really involved in the club already, so they have a really good establishment in the club, and obviously we do take people who are new to the club as well. While we definitely judge by work ethic, we just pick someone who we see has potential.”

For the dance jam, Global Giving is collaborating with Hip-Hop club. According to Chiang, Hip-Hop club will organize the dance jam while Global Giving organizes the fundraising aspect of the event.

Chiang said, “Leo Kim, who was a past treasurer, suggested the idea of a dance jam because it would be more lively and less formal, but we finally got enough crews so we decided to scrap that idea. But the dance jam idea has always been on the backburner the whole time because this year the whole hip-hop scene has dissipated a little bit. I’m really excited because it’s the first year we’re doing this event and I want to see how this goes.”
