Men's swimming and diving team to compete at Sectional tournament on Feb. 20

On Feb. 20 the men’s swimming and diving team will open Sectional play at Noblesville at 1 p.m. Head Coach Chris Plumb said, “Our goal is to qualify as many swimmers as we can for the State meet the following week.”

Plumb said the team will lean on several key seniors in order to win. Those seniors include Nikolas Astashinsky, John “Johnny” Bretz, Matthew Flaherty and Charles Williams. The team will rely on juniors Michael Vinyard and John Stuy as well.

Co-captain and senior Nikolas Astashinsky said, “Our toughest opponents this weekend are Westfield and Noblesville. Noblesville will have the home advantage, so we need to swim our best to win.”

The team is currently undefeated and ranks second in the state. Recent victories over Ben Davis, Homestead and St. Charles give the team confidence heading into this weekend.

Plumb said the team has begun to ease back into workouts in preparation for the Sectional and Regional meets. The Regional meet will take place at Fishers on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. By Reuben Warshawsky <[email protected]>
