Srijana Chavali, Key Club member and freshman, reads a club meeting agenda. Club sponsor Katie Kelly said students should find volunteer opportunities, which are listed on agendas, so they can meet volunteer hour requirements before the end of the semester.

Key Club members will help run the Earth Day Indiana festival at Military Park, located on 601 W. New York Street. The festival will recognize 125 environmentally friendly nonprofit and for-profit groups. It will include live music and food vendors. The festival will also offer workshops about conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.

The festival will run from 7:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 23, but volunteers are still needed to help set it up on April 22 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The set-up will include organizing tables and chairs for attendees.

Students who volunteer will work in 3-hour shifts. They will check in volunteers, show vendors and exhibits where to set up, watch over attendees’ bicycles, sell festival shirts, distribute programs and run any other tasks vendors need help with.

Club members can sign up to volunteer for the Earth Day festival at the Key Club website.

According to sponsor Katie Kelly, students can find other volunteer opportunities at club meetings.

“We have a strong but small group attending the meetings, and we really encourage members to get to them because our club will only get better the more participation we have,” she said.

Ben Sun, Key Club member and junior, said he enjoys seeing all the new volunteer activities offered at the club meetings.

“It’s actually pretty fun volunteering, because we get to go to so many different places,” he said.
