Co-president and senior Joey Heerens explains the problems that Math Club members missed in the Rose Hulman competition. The Rose Hulman competition happened on Nov. 10 at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Math Club members won the Rose Hulman competition for the tenth time on Nov. 10 and now are preparing for the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and the Mandelbrot competition.
Co-president and senior Joey Heerens said, “We’re going to look over problems from past AMC’s, which will be our next major contest stacking on top of the Mandelbrot competition. The AMC will be on Feb. 7 and Feb. 13.”
The AMC is divided into AMC 10 and the AMC 12. The AMC 10 is for freshman and sophomores, while the AMC 12 is for juniors and seniors.
Joseph Broman, sponsor and math teacher, said, “ We’ll be meeting less than 10 times until the AMC’s, so we want to start prepping for it. The AMC also has its own breed of questions, so we want to start preparing early.”
Math Club will meet four more times before winter break begins. At the last meeting, the club discussed the answers to the hardest problems on the Rose-Hulman math contest the club had participated in on Nov. 10. CHS received its 10th consecutive win at the Rose-Hulman competition this year, winning the team award for all four grade levels.
