Ambassadors members prepare for the upcoming choir concert during an after-school rehearsal. Kouns said she hopes the show choir concert will be a wonderful closing to the competition season.

The CHS performing arts department is making final preparations for the upcoming show choir concert on March 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. in the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.

According to director of choirs Kathrine Kouns, the show choir concert will feature three competitive show choirs: Ambassadors, Accents and New Edition.  She said this concert provides an opportunity for these ensembles to perform their competition shows for the local community and is the culmination of the work these choirs have been putting in since August. Kouns also said there will be two performances of the concert this year, one on March 22 and another on March 23, due to overwhelmingly-large turnouts in previous years.

“It’s a very fun night of music and tends to have a more lively ‘vibe’ than a traditional choir concert,” Kouns said. “Our regular concerts usually feature all ten choirs and are also usually programmed with a wider variety of musical styles ranging from classical and folk to multicultural and musical-theater. (The show choir concert) will strictly be more contemporary music. In addition, everything is accompanied by our professional band and each song is costumed and choreographed.”

According to Katie Rosio, Ambassadors member and senior, the show choir concert repertoire will feature songs from earlier in the year, so the biggest challenge has been maintaining energy and motivation to prepare for the concert despite the busy competition season.

Rosio said, “Audiences can expect to see lots of hard work from almost eight months of rehearsal come to life on stage. It is also our last performance of all of the songs that will be featured as well as our competition sets, which is neat because audiences will get to see a summary of our entire year.”  By Adhi Ramkumar
