Do Something Club sponsor James Ziegler and Samantha Kadinger, Do Something Club member and senior, discuss the club’s upcoming projects. Ziegler said that the main focus of the club in the upcoming weeks is to plan for the club’s Veterans Walkathon on May 11.

Do Something Club met March 26 after school to plan their upcoming breakfast for the math department, which won the club’s canned food drive for the SENSE Charter School that took place over the course of the last few weeks, according to Samantha Kadinger, Do Something Club member and senior.

“We are planning to do our breakfast for the math department Thursday, March 28, and at the meeting we will make sure we have people signing up to bring certain foods for it,” Kadinger said.

Additionally, Do Something sponsor James Ziegler said they will also begin planning for the club’s Veterans Walkathon, which will take place on May 11.

“It’s similar to the one we did in November, but this one will be opened up to the whole community. We have food trucks lined up to come, various club booths and other businesses in the community will have booths at the event, so we’re going to start signing up volunteers to help out with that day,” Ziegler said.

Ziegler and Kadinger both said the club hopes to bring awareness to and raise money for veterans battling mental illnesses through this event.

“The goal of the Veterans Walkathon is to raise money for Veterans who are battling mental illness and PTSD, so our hope is that all the money we raise at this event will get donated to a local VA hospital, again with the intent of having it go directly towards veterans who are battling mental illness,” Ziegler said. “Our hope is that because we’re opening it up to the community, it’ll be well-attended, and if we could raise several thousand dollars on that day, it would definitely be great for the cause.”
