The Carmel Clay Public Library will host a virtual history workshop over Zoom on Jan. 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. According to Jamie Beckman, young adult department manager at the library, the workshop is organized by College Nannies & Tutors, a company dedicated to helping students with their homework and preparation for college. Teenagers who are looking toward improving their reading, note-taking and study strategies in history and social studies must register prior to the workshop via this form.

“I think this workshop will be really great for any kind of student, especially those who are struggling in their history classes and will teach students important study skills,” Beckman said. “These study skills include making connections between material students have learned rather than simply memorizing facts and figures, which I believe in the long run will help students comprehend and retain information for longer.”

“I find this workshop interesting,” sophomore Avinash Valuveri said. “I take AP European History and AP Art History, which are two pretty challenging courses, and I’m always looking to improve my study skills, so this would definitely be something I would consider attending.”

According to Beckman, students will learn important skills such as how to actively read, how to take structured and organized notes and how to study with purposeful activities through this workshop.

Beckman said, “By attending this workshop, students will interact with college students and get to learn new studying strategies they might not have ever heard before.”
