After a successful weekend at the ISSMA Regional competition, the marching band has qualified for ISSMA Semistate, which is scheduled to take place Oct. 22 at Ben Davis.
“As we’ve gone through the competition season, our show has improved a lot,” Denise Funk, marching band member and senior, said.
Members of the marching band have been working to perfect their show, “Going Viral”, for ISSMA competitions and BOA Grand Nationals, which is scheduled to take place from Nov. 10 to Nov. 12 at Lucas Oil Stadium. In addition, the band is juggling their piece for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“Right now our focus during practice is about 85 percent competition material and 15 percent Macy’s,” Kathryn Dawson, drum major and senior, said.
Funk said she has noticed an increase in concentration during practice due to the busy competition season and preparation for the parade.
“Practice has definitely become more intense and focused on perfection lately,” Funk said. “Everyone is really absorbed in the details. But still, everyone is also really excited for Grand Nats and the Macy’s parade.”
