According to PTO president Amy Kline, the next PTO meeting will take place on Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. in the community room. Final stages of the security upgrade has been fully implemented on Nov. 14 and will be be used throughout the school year.

According to Kline, the security system, which is called School Gate Guardian, will be located at the main office, the Freshman Center and student services. These are doors one, four, and 13 respectively. All other doors unless specified will be locked during the school day. Visitors will be required to scan their license or state identification card and will be issued a badge to wear upon entering.  When they leave school, they will scan their card again and return the badge. This new security measure will replace the previously used security logs.

“This increased level of security will allow us to better track visitors and help increase the safety and security of our students,” Assistant Principal Doug Bird said via email to the PTO.

According to Kline, in the Dec. 6 meeting, the PTO board members and Principal John Williams will go through budgets and then discuss details on the school emergency safety plan as well as the Japanese exchange program which takes place for most of July.

“We have representatives from the program come talk to our PTO and meet with our sister school (in Japan)… and talk about fundraising,” Klines said.

“I think that the PTO is doing what’s best for the school, and I’m really excited for this Japanese exchange program,” sophomore Eric Wang said.
