DECA members will participate in the DECA district competition which will take place on Jan. 14 at CHS.

According to DECA sponsor Janice Brown, Lafayette High School, Harrison High School, Frankfort High School, Westfield High School, Hamilton Southeastern High School, Guerin Catholic High School and Zionsville High School will be participating in this event in addition to CHS. Furthermore, Brown said that judges from the business community will be present, and DECA members will be tested on their skill, knowledge and ability in competitive situations.

Brown said that there are many different ways that students can prepare for this exam.

“They are pulling from things from class and maybe part-time employment they’ve had from personal experience. There are sample tests they can use and sample role plays they can look at to see what they should expect at the competition,” Brown said.

Brad Kremer, DECA secretary and senior, said he is excited for DECA competitions and events this year.

“I’ve been in DECA since the beginning of junior year,” Kremer said. “It’s a great activity and I encourage all sophomores to take it next year.”

“Normally, we do very well at the district level. I can’t remember the last time we didn’t take first in sweepstakes. Last year we took first in sweepstakes at the district level and second in state,” Brown said.
