NHS to help out with tornado relief in Southern Indiana

Amidst involvement in other activities, NHS is collecting donations for victims of the recent tornado that struck in Southern Indiana in order to assist them in recuperating from the disaster.

NHS assistant sponsor Greer Trapkus-Harris said, “We are collecting donations from members for tornado victims and will be giving them to Henryville schools to help with educational supplies and recovery.” According to Trapkus-Harris, NHS will be giving instructional materials, library books, and computers in support of the West Clark Relief Fund.

NHS members are also participating in a telethon run by the Carmel Education Foundation (CEF), which offers scholarships and grants to CHS seniors in order to increase student accomplishment in education after high school. As mentioned by Trapkus-Harris, NHS students will call past donors seeking donations, and they will ask for pledges and promote awareness.

In the midst of normal NHS duties, members are embracing the process of inducting current juniors for next year’s NHS. Alex Chong, NHS secretary and senior, said, “We are signing people up to work at the induction ceremony for checking people in, guarding the cookies, collecting the ballots, among other jobs.”
