The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is planning Ally Week for the week of Nov.12. While it was originally going to take place last week, club members decided to push off the date so that they could be better prepared for the event.
GSA plans on doing the same things as it did for last year’s Ally Week to raise awareness, such as a booth in main cafeteria to educate students on why Ally Week is important. However, this year they plan on creating a new sign of the club for teachers to display, similar to the diversity posters that are seen in the majority of classrooms.
“We are going to make it available to teachers so they can print them off and put them in their windows to show their support for our club and the homosexual community,” said Taylor Farmer, vice president of GSA and junior.
The purpose of Ally Week is to raise awareness for the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning) cause. However, not all “Ally Weeks” have to be for just this cause.
“All Ally Weeks are important,” said sponsor Jeremy Horner. “It raises much needed awareness for any kind of cause.”
